searching halves today I came across a very shiny 1976 half. The side of it is solid silver - there is no copper core.
The devices are not frosted like a proof. There is no mint mark, so its from P. Were any 1976p silver halves minted?

Or is this post mint?

I don't have a scale.

No. Only in San Fran. Might be a filled die. Pictures would help.

The coin has likely been plated with some other type of metal ,there is no way for us to tell what it was plated with from pictures ,,but if the copper core does not show ,,that is the most likely reason .

get a weight on the coin if you can .

There us a silver version in Unc and a silver version in proof. Both would have the S mintmark.

A picture of your coin would help if the color can be accurate.

Get one, you will be surprised how many times you use it!

Harbor Freight sells a couple of gram scales for around $10-$20 that work great for coins. Make sure it does measure 1/10ths of a gram.

here is the one I use:

I bought a scale on ebay that goes two decimal places after the decimal point for a little over $20 with shipping. It will weigh ckt, oz, gram and dwt. There's a lot of weight variation in Kennedy halves. With it being a fairly large coin with three layers, the mint gives a target weight and not something to be considered exact. If you weigh cents also you won't regret buying one that goes two places after the decimal point.
Life's short, enjoy it while you can.
