Here's another pre-Confederation section that will interest a number of members. It is about the Bouquet Sous, which were issued in Montreal,
Lower Canada (now Quebec) between 1835 & 1838.In 1837,a famous variety
of the Bouquet Sou was issued which had a star & a Liberty cap, which was the symbol of the French Republicans during the French Revolution,
added to the design as a way of expressing sympathy for those who were
involved in the 1837 Rebellions, which broke out in both Lower Canada &
Upper Canada. It was this event that led to Lord Durham into coming to Canada to report on the situation after the Rebellions. He recommended that the 2 Canadas be united into the Province of Canada in his report
of 1839.It was the unification of the Canadas, which set the colonies down the road to Confederation.
