Does anyone know how to find who designed each of the State Quarters? There are initials of mint engravers (I presume) on the reverses. There are many repetitions and I don't think that the same person designed multiple quarters. I have read that the designs must be approved by state officials--Governor?-- but I can't find any source which names the designers.

Any thoughts on the matter from anyone? Thanks. Ron H.

I think a member here with the name of Daniel Carr designed 2 of the quarters himself,The two I think he designed is NY and Rhode Island But I think he was a finalist in the Sacagawea dollar Obverse also (but his design was of Bessie Coleman who he thought would be good for the Obverse and it tied for second place in 1999)

Edit: I just noticed if you look at the "Featured Auction" at the top of the page as of right now you will see one of Daniel Carr's original designs for his Sacagawea design

A controversy arose with the Missouri quarter and the design selection process was changed as a result. Currently, only a theme is submitted, not an actual design. The Mint engravers translate that theme into a design. Daniel Carr also designed the Maine quarter but it was later altered.
