1981 Proof Set Question - Coin Community Forum

Randy Valued Member United States 86 Posts	Posted 02/16/2008 08:16 am I picked up a 1981 Proof Set last weekend at a flee market for $5.00. I was checking it out on ebay, and found a type 2 set with a clear S that sold for $200. How do I tell the difference in a regular set and a type 2 set with a clear S? Any help would be appreciated. MorgansRmine Pillar of the Community United States 1219 Posts	Posted 02/16/2008 10:05 am Filled mintmark has little to do with the types on 1981 Proof sets. Both types could be filled or clear. The serifs on the mintmark tell the Difference. Type1 Type2 Hope the pictures help. Report this Post to the Staff

Susanlynn9 Forum Mom United States 5877 Posts	Posted 02/18/2008 08:58 am Actually, for a proof set to be Type 2, all of the coins have to have the clear S. Individual Type 2 coins in the set are worth a premium, though. The SBA Type 2 is the most valuable of the set. Report this Post to the Staff
