I have a 1973S Eisenhower silver dollar in the original envelope. It says "uncirculated" on the envelope and on the plastic medallion in-cased in the mylar with the coin. However, Red Book shows two 73S, the cupro and the silver clad, as PROOF. What the heck is going on here? How can I tell the difference between the cupro and silver coins? Ditto with my 1971S! Thanks

Are these UNC or PROOF? The Red Book shows all the S mints as being proofs, but the packages clearly say UNC. Thanks bro!

Im not much of a fan of the Ike dollar ,,but the71-S ,72-S, 73-S, 74-S pieces and Bicentennial issue silver clad S mint that I have are all UNC's . I think that there were both Proof and UNC versions of these both bearing the S mint mark,, the ones included in the blue or brown packaging are uncirculated and are silver ,,the proof issues were clad also bearing the S mint mark .

I'm not a fan either, in fact, I dislike these coins. LOL The Red Book is a bit screwy when it comes to these. Three of mine are in those blue envelopes and I believe they are silver. I also have two definate proofs in the brown boxes. Thanks for your help bro!

73S CuNi UNC were not minted. 73S CuNi Proof come from the Proof Set 73S 40% Silver UNC were sold individually in the blue pack, so called "Blue Ike" 73S 40% Silver Proof were sold individually in the brown box, so called "Brown Ike"
71S and 72S UNC and Proof were all 40% Silver and sold indvidually (Brown and Blue). No CuNi 71S or 72S (not even Proof) were made and therefore not available in the proof or mint sets.

You are welcome! I guess I am the rare Ike fan here. The 1976D and 1977D Ikes are the first two coins I got to start my collection almost 30 years ago, so I have a sentimental attachment to them. It is also the first series I completed.

You are very welcome!
I am glad you love them, too! It is an easy set to complete since there are only 32 coins, 34 if you also want all three die varieties for 1972 Philadelphia issues.

Nice photos! Even though I moved all of mine to the 8176, I still have my brown and blue packages for the ones I purchased still in the OGP. Any pictures I could have posted would have been missing a critical element.
