Another new pick up, again something a little out of my normal field of collection.

This time a small silver Celtic coin. I have long desired a stylise horse design but many of these coins are expensive and I believe many counterfeits exist too.

This particular coin is a step down from others I have been tempted by but the price was most definitely right... its a cheap addition yet still serves the purpose of giving an example of those pricey horses.

very nice Celtic coin .What is the size ?
I don t know very much of this coins , but often ,for Central Europe , the Boii tribe is mentioned .Are there also other tribes or is it a name uniting all the tribes .
I think your horse is a further evolution of the representation of a horse on Celtic coins .
Here one of mine :

Ar drachm,13 mm , 1.56 gr ,3th/2nd cent.
Kugelwang-type , Boii.

Beautiful drachm there Antwerpen... looks like one of the pricey kind I was referring to.

My coin doesn't list the size but being an obol and wieghing 0.7g I would guess around 10mm.

Seems bizarre to me that such a basic piece of unformation wasn't supplied but I will wait and see.

No indeed not bad Albert...I think you did well there.

Generally the more appealing Celtic coins I see seem to be in the region of the £200-300 range. Particularly the Iceni tribes...maybe you save a little in auction, and I don't know when you bought the coin or how patient you were but you can't go wrong for that money I think.

There doesn't seem to be much around for under the £50 mark which has eye appeal, certainly not on larger flans - so I was happy enough with this little coin.

I think that Celtic coins of central Europe are a lot cheaper than these of Gaul or Britain .I think I bought the coin last year , but I have my own method to buy . If there is a sale and I am at home , I wait the last seconds to buy .I have choosen a lot of coins , impossible to buy all , and when I have spend the money I had to spend ,I stop . Often ? I have good surprises , when I was no lucky , Then I hope for the next sale . albert
Rest in Peace

Careful with those Celtic. Especially if you trace your family roots back to those homelands. Before you know it you will be drooling over every one you see.
