I'm curious what others select on the return card when you return proof sets to the mint for replacement. I got my batch of 2016 Clad proof sets in the mail today, and BOTH sets have gouges in a couple of the coins. I'll accept some minor blemishes (sometimes, depending on what it is). But a full fledged GOUGE in the open field of obverse, in MULTIPLE sets (different gouges, different coins)?

Do you choose "Product arrived damaged", or "Unacceptable coin quality" - technically it falls into both categories.

Call the mint and tell them that you need a call tag because it arrived damaged. Explain that it wasn't damaged in transit, but was prior to being packaged. They will send you a call tag, but you might have to call a couple of times. It's obvious that the mint does not have visual QC, but we shouldn't have to pay for their lack of QC.

In addition, I put a sticky note inside each set describing what's wrong. That way if they just ship it to someone else, the recipient will know that they received a set that was returned.

OK, thank you! I'll let you know how it goes. The sticky note is a great idea. I was trying to think of a way to mark everything to make sure I don't get the same package back, but I didn't want to mark up the packages in case they would refuse the return. So I took photos of the coins so I can compare to the new sets when they arrive.

If the packaging is not damaged, there is no way that happened in transit.
