NGC graded this 1881 gold dollar MS-67. It has a green CAC sticker. When I was shopping for a type coin at a Baltimore coin show, I saw four 1881 gold dollars on the floor graded MS-67 from both PCGS and NGC. This one was the best in my opinion.

MS-67 with a green CAC sticker WOW!
I do need a $1.00 Dollar gold for my 7070.
Billjones could you tell us what you paid.
That way I can justify the one I hope to buy ( in a much lower price ) to my wife why I'm not crazy.

I usually do not give out exact numbers, but an MS-67 Type III gold dollar from the 1880s era sells for between $4,000 and $5,000. A conservatively graded MS-65 is a better buy at $1,200 to $1,500. There are a lot of nice 1889 gold dollars around. I bought this one years ago. It's only in an MS-64 holder. Grade-flation is now turning some of these coins into MS-66 and 67 pieces.
