The Royal Mint - Every four years people all over the world are united in friendly rivalry by the Olympic Games, one of the greatest sporting stages. For the London 2012 Olympic Games, the nation got behind Team GB, inspired by that memorable opening ceremony. The Royal Mint was proud to strike the medals awarded to athletes at the 'Home Games'. We also issued a series of 50p coins designed by the public to celebrate the event, and they were so popular that many have disappeared from circulation.

As the nation and Team GB get ready for Rio 2016, we have struck a new 50p coin - the only official United Kingdom coin endorsed by Team GB. The reverse of the coin was created by design consultancy Uniform, and celebrates the spirit of the British Olympians - the men and women who 'believe in extraordinary' and remind us to strive for our own personal best. This coin is struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard.
