The "Octopus man" bronze coins of India were first introduced by Raja Raja Chola in ca. 985 AD, and there were many imitations thereafter.

Your coin is from the Chola Dynasty, they ruled Southern India including Sri Lanka. Raja Raja Chola is the most famous of the their rulers 985-1014 AD. Their coins resemble a figure with many arms, so these coins are falsely named the Octopus King. The image is actually the king siting on a throne. Most on the coins look alike so I'm not sure if this is Raja Raja Chola or another king. You second picture is up side down.
