This is a very interesting 1946 cent. In my opinion, the base of the 6 appears to be from another number or letter? It is VERY out of place looking. I took too high of resolution photographs and could not reduce a "whole coin" pic of front and back. If there is need to see it, I can take more pics at lower resolution and post them.
Enjoy and Thanks,
Robert

Probably, the 6 and the D took a hit from the same thing, and wear from circulation.

CoinCollector2000, you agree that this just looks like something hit it with Fuzzy317? I see where the mint-mark and 6 are in-line with each other and the D definitely took a hit, but the base of the 6 doesn't even appear to be part of the same stamp or die. There is a distinct separation of halves on the 6 and an overlap and miss-meet of the two halves where they meet. It looks to me like the bottom of an 8 and the top of a 6. (and that is just flat making something up to explain the look).
As far as wear, the rim and shirt are untouched!
Thanks for the input,
Robert

Trust me, there's no possible way what you are describing could have happened during the minting process. You can even see where the metal shifted when it took the hit.
