Any ideas or tips to tell if it is a true clipped nickel?

Photo's are pretty small, there dosen't seem to be any evidence of a "Blakesley Effect" present. Which could mean PMD.

What I was thinking is the blakesley effect could be ineffective in this case due to the clips being parallel to each other?

Sorry, I should have been more specific regarding the one to the right at the back of the beaver. Mind you I don't have whole lot of experience with clips and effects that different clips create. Is why I used the phrase "could mean PMD" in the above post.

Darn :P just because I am not familiar with clips etc, would you be able to explain what differentiates it from being a clip as opposed to being PMD.

the biggest give away to me is that they are not arced, they are straight (yes there are some straight clips). next the one image you show on the edge shows uneven cut on the coin, clips will be straight across the edge.

The one thing I think spp Ottawa pointed out with real clips is to look at the rim on either side of the clip directly adjacent to the clip. You can see how the metal flows toward the area where the metal is missing. The rim tapers down and kind of points to the clip. That's one way you can tell the metal was missing when the coin was struck and not removed afterwards.

I don't have a good picture but it becomes very obvious once you know what to look for. I look for this more than Blakesley Effect because that is not always visible with the small clips I find coin roll hunting.

the OP is asking a question / looking for advise, who said anything about aggravation or per-determination?

I have several 2x2's.. As Wade mentioned I was just looking for advice if it was a true clip, as I do not have a clipped nickel in my set yet. It would have made a really cool addition! Anyways thanks for the help everyone, I found it in a junk bin at a coin dealer, thought I had gotten lucky. Will drop it in my pre 1981 nickels and move on :)
