Well, maybe not everybody. But here's a nice die crack on a 1995 cent...
(I had to retire the QX-3 for a moment and go back to my homemade tripod)

I'm sure in some respect the "Well, maybe not everybody" part was directed toward me...please allow me to explain myself as clearly as possible:

Die cracks can be neat. They make odd shapes on the coins that look different from the norm. I have been known to keep a couple here and there for educational purposes. They are indeed different...collectible? Perhaps, to some.

My point with die cracks is that they tend to be far too common to warrant any real staying value. People collect them thinking if they have a pile of them, they will have a valuable collection. There's nothing farther from the truth.

Truth be known, if a person wants a collection that has value to other people, they have to have coins that are unlike nearly all other coins. Either major errors that actually change the shape of a coin so that it's obvious to everyone there's something definitely going on there, or a die variety that makes you see double when you look at the coin. Almost anything else is "novelty" quality, and novelty quality doesn't carry value.

Machine Doubling, die cracks, little blobs, Grease Filled Dies, and other rather common stuff is nice to show and tell, talk about, and the like--but the last thing I would want people to leave here believing is that they have some sort of value over that of any normal coin of the given date, mint, and grade.

We are here to educate and be educated. To share what we learned and what we know. Saying stuff like "great find" and "way to go" to a die crack gives the newbies the wrong impression that the people who post such comments believe there to be inherent value in such coins. This is why I generally always come in to a post about a die crack explaining that they are neat, but of no real value. I want the newbies to KNOW what's valuable and what's not. That's all.

And to that end, I'll say that die crack is nice, better than most. It also is of the same date and mint as a very nice die that has a similar die crack in later die states - the famous 1995 doubled die developed a die crack at the back of the ear that extended to the top of the head in later die states.

Cheers.

Oh no, Chuck. This was in NO way directed towards you at all. I agree with you 100% that die cracks, machine doublings, and other "non-error" coins are pretty much worthless to most collectors, although there are some who are willing to pay a buck or two for a decent one. I might even put this one on e-bay to see if someone does bid on it.
I'm pretty much still a rookie at this game, and I'm pretty much just a roll hunter more than anything. I know that limits my findings to luck, but that's the chance I'm willing to take. The only things I've found worth a hoot were three 1998 wide-am's, one 2000 wide-am, and a 1988 rdv-006. Collecting coins is not a job to me, but a fun hobby. (My job is to protect the state of North Carolina from escaping prisoners!)
So here's to you Chuck, Foundinrolls, forum parents, and others who educate and make me a better collector... Thank you all!

I put it on e-bay. For shots and goggles, let's see how it does...

It sold for .81 plus .50 for shipping, which equals 1.31 minus .85 for fees so I made a whopping .46! A .45 profit!
