Hi, I have 4 1972 Eisenhowers that I want to submit to PCGS. I already know they're Type 2 but do I have to pay extra under the variety program to find this out?

I called them and they directed me to their website and the variety program, but Ikes aren't mentioned there.

So I assume I don't have to pay extra and the 72 Ikes are analogous to the 1864 small motto/large motto 2 cent piece.

I moved this to the TPG forum since it is more a question about the process than the varieties themselves. Hopefully an answer will come shortly.

I really thought someone would comment by now. I am going to move it so that the V/E members get a chance at offering an answer.

I would think you don't need to pay extra, like the 1909 VDB or 1886 Indian Head cent varieties 1 and 2. They put any major variety on the label with no charge. I don't know Ikes very much so I don't know that the Type 2 would be considered though.

If you want confirmation, I would call or email them again telling then specifically the variety. Maybe ask which they consider "major varieties." If they direct you to the varieties page again, tell them Ikes aren't listed.

I had this slabbed by ANACS and didn't need to pay extra:

1972-Eisenhower- 1972-Eisenhower-

I don't know about other grading companies, however.

You might check with the "Ike Group" site. They may know more about this than I do at this time?
