Here is a type coin that most collectors do not recognize, the No Drapery quarter. The drapery is a fold of cloth that extends down from Ms. Liberty's elbow on the hand with holds the liberty cap staff. On this early version there amount of cloth is small. In all of the later years it is quite large on all of the Liberty Seated coins from the Half Dime to the quarter. There are also No Drapery and With Drapery half dollars, but the differences are slight. This was the rendition of the Liberty Seated design the Christian Gobrecht produced. Later his work was replaced by Robert Ball Hughes.

Here is an 1853 Arrows and Rays quarter with the drapery so that those who are not familiar with the type can see the difference.

Agree with MVC - looks like it might have been handled very slightly; AU58/MS-62.

NGC graded this 1839 quarter as an AU-58, which is "dead on" in my opinion.

I was going to say AU 55 but then I saw that it was graded AU 58. I agree with that, its a nice coin.
