Square-Japanese-Or-Chinese-Token,-Charm-Or-Amulet

Acquired this token, charm or amulet today. It is 22mm made out of silver alloy or white metal (non-magnetic). Would like to know if it is Japanese or Chinese and if anyone has any information on it.

It's definitely an amulet, probably 50-100 years old. Totally lost beyond that.

Thank you. Found out that this piece is based on an old Japanese coin issued AD 1784-1787 known as a "Sendai". The inscription reads sen dai tsu ho which translates as "Sendai currency". So I believe it is Japanese and obviously no older than 1784, and probably much newer.
