This is part of an inherited collection. It was in a box with Civil War and Hard Time tokens. Can't tell exactly what it's made of but it seems heavy for its size. It is 7.88 grams and 23 millimeters in diameter. Any ideas?

Looks like the obverse impression of a 1913 Buffalo nickle.Appears to have been gilt at one time.

It's a contemporary counterfeit of some sort.

If the thickness of the piece is 1.7 mm, its density would be consistent with lead.

It appears someone took a 1913 Buffalo nickel and made an impression into your unknown metal.
