I bought some graded canadian coins, All NGC graded) among them is a nice 1887 10 cent, graded AU-53

I live in the states but visit Canada every summer. Last summer I took them to a coin shop, the guy liked the coins, but said he wouldnt buy them because they were in an NGC slab.

He literally said he had never heard of NGC.

My question is, what would be a worthwhile TPG to cross the coins over to?

Thanks for your help!

NGC is fine for a slab. There's a good chance they may be overgraded though. Good photos here would help us tell you. ICCS tends to be the preferred TPG for Canadian coins - they have no website.

I'm not going to guess why he would suggest that NGC slabs aren't in Canada...I have seen many here and own a few slabbed NGC coins myself.

ICCS seems to be the most popular in Canada. Their phone number, if you are interested, is 1-416-488-8620. The only reason I put the number here is because they do not have a website. :)

But NGC presence in Canada has been growing just in the last few years. Seems to be primarily through ebay. They've done a noticeable number of modern, high grade coins in their new slabs that, in my opinion, are comfortably within a single grade point of their ICCS equivalents. Like PCGS however, I'm still leery of ones in the lower grades in the older holders.
