Guy has an old cheque from "The People's bank of Halifax".
It's from the Hartland branch.
While looking for info on said bank I found this document
http://www.rbc.com/history/_assets-...hapter-1.pdfthat (sadly) only mentions the bank in passing. However page 37 has a great map showing all the bank locations of a different bank. I am looking for something like that but for The People's bank.
According to
http://canadacurrency.com/chartered...otia-canada/the bank had 26 branches.
I searched this legal document
https://scc-csc.lexum.com/scc-csc/s...175/index.doand found out there is a branch in Woodstock but that isn't what I am looking or right now.
I know the bank amalgamated with BMO
https://www.bmo.com/bmo/files/image...storyEng.pdfQuote:
It started early in the twentieth century, when
Bank of Montreal amalgamated with the Exchange
Bank of Yarmouth in 1903, the People's Bank of Halifax
in 1905, The Ontario Bank in 1906 and the People's
Bank of New Brunswick in 1907. This brought in
important outlets in the Maritimes and Quebec
That is a start. The old BMO building in Hartland is now Day and Ross. I went to Day and Ross' "Our History" site
http://www.dayross.ca/Forms/Content...ry&langid=en...but nothing about the bank.
Rather then searching through newspaper microfilm from the year 1864 to 1905 what should I do to narrow my focus?
I was thinking looking through all the 1905 local papers hoping to find an article about the bank changing? From there I could work backwards?
If I knew when the bank opened up in Hartland to a year I could save some time on the microfilm machine. I tried searching online documents with the spelling "Heartland" too. No results.
