$19 snipe bid won this 1865 Fancy 5 Two Cent Piece. Looks like a solid VF30 to me, perhaps a VF35. Reverse strike weak on left side, faintly visible partial top serif on D. Nice, even brown. Two very faint die cracks from reverse ribbons to rim.

Did not see any other major issues other than circulation dirt.

CCF thoughts on a grade welcomed,

According to "old time" grading, it just makes Fine because the "WE" is just barely visible. Today, grading from surfaces, I'd give it a VF because the "WE" does not match up with the rest of the coin in terms of surface wear, but I hesitate to start going into the upper reaches of VF because of grade-flation concerns. I'll expand on that comment if people would like.

I grade by price, on coins of this nature, and most copper, so I don't really care as much about the technical wear grade. Someone might look at this coin and say it's a VF20 and others might see a VF35, but to me it "grades" about $35-$40 retail, so for $19 I am quite pleased.
