I have just noticed recently, several major online dealers (such as APMEX and Providentmetals) are massively advertising bullion & coins on many popular websites. Last few years I had seen none of them. What's going on? Edited by leon1998 04/24/2016 8:04 pm

Gold and Silver prices have been climbing steadily; and many peoples are aware of it. Why do dealers need to spend money on advertisement?

Because if they didn't. no one would know that they were there. People would go on thinking that the only place to buy silver is on HSN for $27.50/oz
Are you sure it is them advertising and not your browser tracking your browsing habits and customizing ads tailored to you?

Probably because they are going to crash soon? The rescission is coming so they try to tick us into thinking we should buy now. But in the middle of the upcoming recession it will bottom out, people will panic and get out, and I'll be getting in at that time =). It's a trick to get us to buy now before recession hits. Than during the recovery years, and all the bail outs happen, people will lose faith in the currency and buy PM shooting the prices up to high high amounts like in 2009 and than one to two years in the recovery years it'll peak and than go back down for the recession to hit after that one. That assumes the currency doesn't collapse completly and we come out on the other end I've noticed more advertisements but that's probably because I've been visiting bullion sites daily and the advertisements are based on what sites you visit.

@denco7, Oh yeah I am very sure; I hit the ads link and get redirected to APMEX and Providentmetals. I am very surprised; if people want to buy bullion, just google search is enough to find them; why waste money on ads?

I went to a midsize show in Grapevine Tx this past Saturday. The concerns of most dealers I talked to is that the longtime retail customers they used to see are no longer showing up and spending money for collectible coins. Everything now is just bullion this, and bullion that. The dead inventory in dealers cases is absolutely amazing.

About 50% of sites I'm on has the same ads. I've very little doubt it's because I'm frequently on the bullion sites. My neighbor's wife has no idea why pops up when she's searching recipes.

I rather spend my money on coins, rather on bullion. I do own bullion but, I'll only buy it close to melt. Just my way of thinking for the future.

the more you visit bullion sites, the more they pop up. that's how those search engine make money, they record your browsing history and analyse your shopping habit.

You see the adds after you have been to their web sight, I see adds from Provident and JMB but no popups my block must stop them. If you delete the cookie in your browser you may not see such adds on everything you click on, "warning" if you delete your cookies you will have to log back in to all your favorite sights.

Many of the remarketing systems also have settable preferences on their home sites (Amazon, Facebook, Google...) to set the kind of ads you prefer. Google "ads preference manager" for the appropriate settings.

I visited those bullion sites much more frequent last year. If this cookie/remarketing stuff were there, then why didn't I see any of those bullion ads last year?
Doesn't make sense.

I think these companies are spending more on ads, to try and grow their business. I could be completely wrong about this; but I find coin collecting doesn't seem to be very popular among the younger crowd. It seems like there are fewer younger collectors out there today (to replace the older generation), than there were 10-15 years ago. If I am correct in my observation, I believe this will mean lower prices and larger inventories down the road. I guess these companies might be seeing this on the horizon, or possibly feeling this effect now?

Try to use an app that blocks tracking of your internet traffic and see if it still appears. Fat chance that you'll suddenly see a lot of different advertisements. If you haven't seen any advertisement in the past, then think if you may have had a different computer, browser (or browser version) or if you have had any advertisement blocking software installed (which might now be obsolete due to changes in your application landscape). Same here: if I look up flight prices, then there's a 100% chance that all websites suddenly start advertising airlines and hotels to me in that specific browser. If I look up coins and numismatic things, then there's a lot more advertising appearing on those items. Another reason why companies like APMEX and Providentmetals may suddenly appear much more in your face may be because they might have just entered an agreement with google or any other internet advertising agency. In that case, we should see more people on this site who suddenly got a lot more advertising from those companies. :)
