PCGS graded this 1874 With Arrows half dollar as an MS-63. This is an example of a coin that was dipped and then retoned and acquired some tarnish that some collectors find attractive. I like it, but you should have heard the negative comments from some of the purists on the other blogs. Those guys have really gone overboard.

I've heard the chatter from the other forums and it's unfortunate. This is a pleasing example and one I wouldn't be ashamed to own in its present state.

Bill, how do you know the coin was dipped and retoned?

I know it. I posted the below coin on another forum and half the posters called it an EF-45 cleaned and artificially toned. I think even you would agree that is not the case.
