Hi Everyone,
I've recently found that bidding on Thursday night Heritage Auctions is something I really look forward to and an enjoyable part of my early collecting experience, however, I've seen more and more posts/articles about fakes that to me look pretty genuine. So, naturally, I'm hesitant now and it's not as fun to buy with the constant worry in the back of my mind. Have any of you seen any fakes make it through to auction on Heritage, or should I not be so concerned? maybe there is a "tell" I should look for?
Thanks in advance friends!
David

Every one makes mistakes. Even the experts get fooled and usually there is no shame in that !
If you make enough judgments sooner or later you will make a mistake. The question must be whether the seller is honest and stands by the guarantee offered.
I don't think you should worry too much about Heritage Auctions. They do have a fine reputation and like all sellers who value such things they are all but certain to stand by it.
Could they sell a fake ? Of course the could (and probably have) but the buyer stands on firm ground when dealing with them.
You buy on Facebook and the sharks are many ! As well as some nice coins too !

They (sharks) seem to be drawn to murky waters.

There is no way to guarantee you don't buy a fake. Your chances are less at HA. If you find out it is fake after the purchase, at least with HA you have recourse. Don't let it ruin your experience. If you do, the terrorists win! Haha!

Self education goes a long way. Study up and don't rely on others opinion.
