I found this in the middle of an uncirculated roll of '64's I lucked out on. Not sure if it is a black beauty but it's certainly gorgeous.

I could be wrong, but I thought the Black Beauty (annealing error) was 1958.

To me it looks like toning. Its hard to tell when it is in the 2x2. -CRHer

It's toned for sure I was just wondering about the dark color and perfect lines through the entire coin. Crazy thing was that the other 39 didn't have any marks or gold tone. Mostly dark grey/blueish. I asked the guy at the local gas station for a roll of Nickels. He gave me uncirculated 1964's and 2 rolls of Buffalo nickels for $6 so it's a win either way. I'll try to get some pictures out of the 2x2

That's a great buy! Can't go wrong with buying 2 rolls of dateless or dated buffalos for face!

Not at all they were labeled partial date but there wasn't a single one I couldn't make out. He gave me a decent DDR 1935 as change so I thought to ask if he had any rolls he'd sell. Definitely had me wondering when he searched through the rolls to give me the "worst" he had

I've got a similar - but darker - from a 64 mint set. I don't think improper annealing has a date limit. Although, I haven't seen one later than 1964. Incidentally, the Denver coin was "as expected".

Jimmyjohns , Are you sure you got them from a gas station ? Sounds more like a LCS . that sure looks like a Black Beauty . the most common date for them is 1959 .but they are known other dates between 1958 and the early 60's . was the unc. roll of 64's bank wrapped or customer wrapped ? just wondering why the reverse of that one Nickel has such a weakly struck Mont. building .

Either way that is a beauty. Wow. And the price was way right. Nice.

Ya T I swear on everything it was in a roll straight from the Fed Reserve in Cleveland I can get a pic. It seems about half of the others are SP type as well. High, SHARP rims turning a nice blue. I'm pretty sure the reverse looks weak BC of the 2x2 it's currently in honestly. They're not full step, closest I've gotten was 3 steps. heck of a deal for $2

I was reading earlier today that the 58's and 59's were known for the black beauty. However 1964 was also a year of the same rarity. I'm stoked on this one. I just got a roll of 03's today from the Treasury with purple/gold tones on each end. The guy collects them himself so we're under agreement now

Thanks man I'm going to send it out one of these days but probably holding onto this one. I'll be posting some others up once I get good pics. Really lucked out on this one though I've read about them but never even saw one go at auction. Seemed like a Unicorn lol
