'Due to it's unprecedented success, the Royal Canadian Mint has re-issued the 2014 S$5 Peregrine Falcon Proof 1 oz coin with a 2016 date. Collectors will be able to enjoy the same design as the 2014 issue, but with a 2016 date.'

For real? They are re-issuing popular designs now? Really?

It's called the "Reverse Proof" series.

Limited mintage of 100,000 coins.

Is the new one will be Reverse Proof?

Cause in 2014 it was Proof collectors and Specimen bullion coins.

For bullion or semi-numismatic coins, the repeat of the design less mater, I think.

Here's the link to SGB for full details:

I ordered some, but haven't received them yet.

I think they'll look good in reverse proof, and I don't mind having several versions of the same coin, including the proof version.

Ok ya got me with that thread title " RCM re-issues 2014 coin in 2016!!".

The source of the quote is not clear but whomever used the term 'reissue' is being inaccurate IMO.

Reusing a design and reissuing a previous years coin are very different. What's next, " RCM reissues 1998 SML in 2012 (and every year in between)". Same design, the only thing different is the date. But really that is all that needs to be different...isn't it?

@CC-Ottawa: Agree! The RCM is not reissuing a 2014-dated coin, it is simply continuing the use of a previously-issued design on a current year coin. The latter happens all the time (read: every year).

Nothing nefarious going on here!
