I just read a post asking if there were any more toonies this year. I was interested.

Turns out they make a lot of toonies.

I had always heard/read, Canada makes a lot of coins.

According to Numista.com:

From the year 0-1966 Canada made 75 different TYPES of coins.

Any guess how many from 1967-2016?

If you're including NCLT, it will be thousands. Currently, the RCM issues 250-300 annually.

Not many of those $1M out there. Good luck getting one.

I couldn't even fathom a guess if the NCLT is taken into consideration (I don't consider them "coins")

Between 1967 - 2016, 49 years, circulation, well over 100 just the 25c with olympics, y2k, etc. My guess 520.

But if it includes NCLT, all of that including each of the different type of coins released in each of the uncirculated sets, proof sets, specimen sets, etc? Oh my gosh, the number has to boggle the mind. Maybe 6,500?

Between all the series, the privy marks, and all the general randomness... I'll say 2527.

(It's probably less than that, I'm highballing it a bit in case I forgot something that makes the number much larger.)
