1958-D Cent (Variety?)

Below are images of the "5" and the "8" on this coin. Look closely and it appears there is something struck underneath each number. Inside the upper and lower loop of the "8" and inside the cap of the "5." Any comments or knowledge on an overstrike or variety like this during that year?

Looks like a nice die gouge. Now if it was only thru his head you would have a speared Lincoln Cent and ebay would go nuts. Neat coin anyways. Gusp
