On Auction Postings what does the FR # stand for?

I have been waiting for currency to get back from being graded. Supposedly it is in the mail. When I get them back I will post with pictures. This includes the $5 Star note that I inherited from my late Father.

Since my first posting a few weeks ago, I have been studying 'sold' currency items on Heritage and ebay. I have about 5 types of large bills that I am trying to learn about. Even that is a big task for a newbie like myself.

If I were to bid on an item, it would have to have been graded, as my lack of experience and knowledge would make any other bid, a wild guess at best. And as you all know a fool and his currency is soon separated. I also recognize that even though the grading process is not a guarantee, it is at least an idea of the relative quality/value of a given bill.

Timewise, the FR# refers to the Friedberg catalog number. If you don't have one you REALLY need it. Check ebay for them or Abebooks or Amazon. Or from publisher:

Specifically, it is "Paper Money of the United States" by Arthur L.and Ira S. Friedberg.

Be sure to get the 20th edition, which is the latest. The Friedbergs also have a less-expensive paperback volume titled "A Guidebook of United States Paper Money" which is also excellent - the latest edition is (as I recall) the 4th.
