I work for a fairly large Bullion and Coin distributor, we usually don't purchase any small note silver certificates but we bought this off a loyal customer in a large collection, I had assumed it was a just a redeemed or canceled note but can't seem to find any info on it at all. Has the last 5 of the serial number punched in the note. Our note guy is out of town for several weeks, any help would be appreciated,

Ben

It looks to me like someone used a check protector https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkwriter on this bill.

This happened sometime after it left the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

Thanks for the response, any idea why they would of done this, or why they would use the serial number of the bill to mark it?

I can't say for sure why it was done however two possibilities are:

testing the check writer machine OR someone was bored at the bank or office

When using a check writer one sets the numbers to be punched through the check or document. Here's an example of an older version of one http://currency.ha.com/itm/miscella...ption-071515
