Hi all, I wanted to post this Black Eagle to share with you all. I realize it is not in the same category as my 1914 $5 Star Note I posted earlier, but these large bills are something to look at. This is probably not a bill I should pay to have graded, but I do plan on selling it. All comments appreciated...

A very nice gently circulated specimen. Similar to my 1899, which was my first an only large-sized note for many years. I came across it one day and wondered if there were other notes that large ... I couldn't believe just how many others there were!
I love the fact that because these were so large, most circulated notes have two or three vertical folds AND a horizontal fold down the center.

Timewise44, having a note graded is quite often a personal preference. Your note appears to be an Fr.230. Whatever you decide do keep it in a mylar holder to protect it. Nice note

I'm trying to recall my first large size note, and it may have been the black eagle. They are very popular notes.

Nice Black Eagle, and as the rest have said, it looks evenly circulated and maybe even washed at one time in it's life. The eagles wings and portraits of Grant and Lincoln look well faded compared to an AU note like my example.

Thanks to all for the comment...I just love these 'large bills' the engraving is amazing, I fear it is a lost art!
SteveinTampa....I am jealous that's a real nice 'Black Bison's...Seems like anyone who collects and loves 'Large Bills' the Bison would be on the list!

Great note thanks for sharing. Everytime I look at large notes I always start at the 1899 black eagle. I have yet to pull the trigger though.

And you call yourself a "coinfrog"....man that is a great looking Black Eagle and that serial number is mighty low too....
How long have you had it?
Thanks for sharing.....Do you have a "Bison" in that class?

I wish I had a Bison in that class!! Two-digit Black Eagles in 64 or better are found frequently over the complete series, I should point out. Many were saved, but not as many as you might think, as I have seen many circulated examples as well. What appeals to me about this note is the symmetry of the prefix and suffix, the fact that X is just kind of a cool letter, and the mid-point number of 50. I would rather have a true radar, of course, but this note is much more appealing to me than, say, the number D27J. I've owned it for 2-3 years and actually bought it on ebay from a liquidation auction that had only a handful of notes on offer. Just dumb luck trolling one night.
