There is a seller on ebay right now with at least 3 of these 1 ounce fakes. I have emailed him to notify him. Is there anything else we can do to get these auctions pulled?
Yes, that is the guy. I wasn't sure if I could post his user ID. I emailed him and he said that he bought them all off another guy on ebay last month and was flipping them. He didn't believe me when I told him that they were fakes and to do his due diligence before he sold them. If his story is true, and he was hoodwinked as well, then he may be a victim too. However, it did give me pause when I called him out on them, and he didn't pull the auctions. The right thing to do would be pull them, make 100% certain they are real, and then relist them
Hopefully this guy's auctions get pulled. I saw they were still active. If you have a direct email from the Perth Mint confirming this, then wow. I never really bought into the fact that these "certi cards" were not easily able to be copied. One reason, the only gold that I buy is US Mint gold, either eagles or commems, and then certified by NGC or PCGS. I realize they can be faked, but I think my best best is going that route.
Very scary. I would never buy gold bars off of ebay, yet I see people buy them all the time. I guess the sellers of this fake gold think that if it is a certi card, the buyer will never take it out and get it tested. Almost a fool proof way to scam people.
Hello. Here is the exact letter I got back from Perth Mint and I quote
Quote: "The bars with the wording CertiCard Security Case on the front do not have a 'letter' in front of the bar number on the back. These cars [sic cards] have the letter A in front of the number. So definitely do not purchase."
The fakes will only get more and more abundant in the market!! Especially with prices moving higher.... Do these mints that use certicard even care? What are they doing to protect their brand and confidence in buying/!? I'm not sure anyone can shutdown the counterfeiters in China, but someone can at least make it harder to replicate these bars?
We can assume gold will be continually be knocked off so why not make the package impossible to replicate? I didn't understand this concept until I bought these bars from scottsdale mint in certi-lock packaging:
