Hi--another from my junk pile. This one was from near the bottom... The diameter is 18 mm and the mass is 2.9 g. It looks to be almost completely copper.

Based on my on-line research, I'm pretty confident of the rev: Victory walking left, with SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE and then maybe two field marks on the left, one possibly an X, K, or star and the lower one shaped more like an O, D, or P. I cannot make out anything in the exergue (or even if it exists). On the obv, I am hard pressed to read anything except for perhaps AVG at the end of the inscription. One thing that I do notice, is that both instances of the letter "V" that are visible have the uprights almost parallel. In other words, the character looks a whole lot more like our letter you than our letter V. I'm not sure if that means anything or helps with the attribution. In terms of rulers, I believe that the Valentinians, Valens, and Gratian all used the Victory walking left reverse. In looking at the dozens of examples of this reverse on wildwinds, I see that Valens in particular tended to have multiple letters in the rev field to the left of Victory. However, those other guys also certainly had their share of fieldmarks too.

What do you Roman gurus say? Valens? Or someone else? I'd appreciate any thoughts from you folks.

Reverse "SECVRITAS REIPVB"?

Yes Alberto, that is my thought. I could not have made out these letters without the foreknowledge that they typically occur with the Victory walking left deity design. See below for my thinking. Do you disagree?
