Looks like it needs to be brighter and your white balance seems off. A lot of people use the Janso light.

Correct white balance (for CFCL not Tungsten) and use a longer exposure.

See the part of the histogram you are wasting?

Just-Built-A-Ldiy-Lightbox-Today

Properly set and exposed you will not have the yellow cast and you will use most or all of the 255 possible levels for each color.

A little dim imo.

Would love to see pics of your DIY Light Box. Been thinking about making one myself out of a cardboard box and some tissue paper.

top photo appears square to the camera. the second photo is tilled to the left. you are doing very good. your focus is just off a little bit. I would add some more light. I think you are taking your photos of the coin standing up. I was wondering are you using a tripod. keep up the good work. post some photos of your setup if you dont mind. have a great one

Thank you for the tips! I am using an old Sony Cybershot DSC-S650 point and shoot I picked up about 8 years ago.

After reading this thread and poking around I discovered ISO and WB. Both of which I have some control of on this camera. Still trying to sort out my lighting issue.

Believe it or not I was using a tripod. Maybe I should up the timer to 10 seconds?

Here are pics of my "light box". It is just a little thing. I watched a couple videos and cut some holes.

I think you and I watched the same videos.

Have the boxes, keep forgetting to get the tissue paper when we go to town.

Do you have any desk lamps sitting around that uses OTT lights? These seem to cast a white light and are pretty bright. Both of mine have goose necks as well

You inspired me I'm making mine tonight.

The tiny store in town actually had tissue paper.

OK. Atempt #2. Upgraded lighting and a black background.

EDIT: Hmmmmmmm The overall picture has a pretty heavy red tinge from, I assume, the curtains. Could that be causing some of the oddities I am experiencing?
