Today I made a deal for a new bank roll of Mounties. These were bought directly from the bank in 73 (12 rolls)and put directly into a deposit box. Now the large bust was it scattered randomly in rolls or were there more to some rolls than others, or were some rolls all large bust? I'll be getting the roll in a couple of days. Love to hear all thoughts please. Cheers, Jon.

Love this Mountie quarters! This was a rare error that was well known about at the time. I recall everyone that I knew had their eye out for them for years.. That included all the tellers at the bank where I worked at back then and very few were found, if any. Not by me for sure, I ended up buying one. The bank rolls came from a huge canvas sack of loose quarters, so the odds are highly against a full roll of large bust.

But look luck in your search, hoping it is more fruitful!

They were not rolled from the mint then, they were rolled at the banks? I tried to get 2 rolls but the other 11 are being left for family to squabble over. I got the roll for 15.00CDN so either way it'll work out good. Perhaps get a couple or so high MS small bust from the lot....... Ty for the info. Cheers.

Paulsz, I'll do that for sure, I got a call and I'm to go over tomorrow so by tomorrow night there may be a pic of the full roll to start with. Almost like Christmas for an older guy lol.

Yes, I'd bet the rolls are in a chartered bank wrapper. Not hand rolled though, even back in the 70s most banks used coin rolling machines. No fingerprints.....you're at least apt to find some very nice MS.

Well Fourmack if I come across some nice small bust ones in MS, I'll send you one in the mail to help cheer you up lol.

See that's where I got confusion going, John had mentioned mostly in sets, yet C&C site has MS pricing.

They are out there to find. I have been looking since the 80's when I was a young child.

@ace_ftw Excellent, so they do exist in the wild! From 1974 - 1977 I looked at each and every 1973 quarter that passed through my hands as a bank teller, hundreds per day, and each and every one thereafter in my pocket change because it got to be a habit, until the flow pretty much dwindled away. I know my father did as well, who was the main reason at the time that I hoped to find one. Nothing.

I've looked a long time too, even working in a bank, and never found one. I finally bit the bullet and bought one - I wanted a circulation strike, not PL though. Good luck looking through those rolls - it sure sounds like fun!

Fourmack, looks like you have a healthy little stash there lol.

Ace, now is that one you've found in the wild? If so good score.

Back in about 1995 I gave my sister about 100 mountie quarters as she collected, simply to do so. I or she had no idea of the large bust. I asked her a few years ago to get them so we can look through them all. Hmmmmm it seems they had vanished, every last one of them. She has an idea of where they went but no proof.

I found this in a roll of 73's that I bought while roll hunting about a year ago.

funny story, it was my dump bank, and the teller told me that earlier in the day they got some weird quarters in, and had to verify that they were legit. After she described them, I knew she was talking about the old design with the leaf wreaths, so I got really excited. I told her I would buy all their quarters.

I did not find any older silver quarters, however I did find 3 full rolls of 1967 and 1968 silver quarters.

however the real score with the LB Mountie (at least for me)
