Real-Deal-Special-Strike-1964's?

A SMS from PCGS just to show its not entirely abnormal to have extremely odd polishing/cleaning lines.

"perfectly normal"? I have a BU 64 Mint Set, with the normal lines flowing outward from the center after the Strike and there's a pretty noticeable difference in luster, and the rims, and the solid strike..they appear better than most.

but at least take the time to notice before insinuating they're just one quick swipe in the same direction

I did take my time looking at your images and the only coins I can't see evidence of being wiped/cleaned are the Quarter and the Half.
You asked for opinions on these coins and I have given you my honest appraisal of these using the images you have provided.
If you disagree with my opinion then Fine But there is No reason for you to get "Narky" about it.

I'm just saying they obviously change direction. It would be a stupid question on my end if they all simply went from left to right, straight over the bust, and ran perfectly in line with each other. It was almost insulting on my end that you would assume I would be dumb enough to wonder. With the pictures I have of the SMS coins as my only source besides paying ridiculous amounts to have someone take a look at, it was an honest question. The coins on Heritage seem to have the same odd "cleaning" of the surfaces. There's a possibility the mild toning of my coins sets that off more is all. My biggest question today is..if these were fully uncirculated, which they certainly appear to be, why would anyone think it to be a good idea to clean them? They're not just beat up AU coins. If someone thought, "hey let's clean these perfect coins", they would probably be the type to understand they'd be destroying them? They're not 1881 Morgan's and they're clearly not circulated, so why?

I don't know exactly why people tend to think that a bit of a clean up will improve a coin but it happens all too often.
This is a perfectly nice Uncirculated Canberra Florin that has been treated the same way as your coins and is now pretty much ruined

This is the SMS Dime. Was it cleaned too?

Real-Deal-Special-Strike-1964's?

They've been described as refinished dies. Here's a refinished die.

They go on to describe a Satin Luster. Here's Satin from a well known coin of earlier years.

So what about the SMS I posted from the PCGS files Trout? Was that cleaning as well? I'm asking an honest question, not arguing. Is that why it looks that way? Like someone rubbed with an abrasive cloth, or sandpaper even? I'm just trying to differentiate the lines on my nickel to the lines on that SMS Nickel. What made those marks?

They were struck on "highly polished dies"..any chance the Mint had to "clean" them themselves? I read from a few sources, actually from old posts in this forum mostly, that it's not unlikely. Kind of how the planchets set the devices off on Cameo proofs. If the polishing was off by a hair, would they not clean them up if they were made for Special Presentation like a proof? I'm trying to learn every day and need more input than just a theory that somebody cleaned otherwise perfect coins.

You will notice that the polish lines do NOT appear on the devices or design on that sms Dime as they do on your nickel.
The lines also have to be raised and not incused if they are to be considered as die polishing marks.

If you really think your coins are sms then just send them to PCGS and put an end to the matter

I'm not saying they necessarily are polish lines. I was asking about the SMS Nickel I posted. Are those lines from being cleaned too? Is it out of the question that the Mint cleaned them up? The polish lines on the dime you're comparing to are the same lines on my dime, yet you said that was cleaned as well is all. AND..if you noticed, again, there are in fact lines ON Roosevelt's Bust as well as the field on the PCGS dime. They just go several directions. So that's not necessarily true for my Nickel to be out of the equation just because of lines on the devices. Different lines. Different direction. Same as the Attributed SMS Dime. I'm not trying to sell these or anything I just don't understand why we can't have a better discussion than a big fat "No, you're wrong"? This is a legitimate discussion to try to eventually help others. Either to know what to look for from a better example than the vague descriptions posted just to make the sale, or to know not to bother because it's just a cleaned coin. Either way, close-ups of REAL coins and real discussion on the matter is the only way to learn. If I was only after money by getting the grade and selling right away, I would never even attempt to explain why I personally believe there's a lot more out there. Obviously if the population jumped, I'd have less of a payout, but more collectors would have hope on finding a 1964 SMS that's not $30,000. That's why I didn't just send them straight to a TPG. On top of admitting these may in fact be plain old coins. Does nobody wonder why in the Coin World or does someone have genuine proof there's only 18 SP Nickels out there and it's not worth wondering?

There are quite a few extremely noticeable lines on Roosevelt's neck too..

"You will notice that the polish lines do NOT appear on the devices or design on that sms Dime as they do on your nickel."- Trout

Are you absolutely blind or just enjoying trying to get a rise out of me? You can't possibly be a "pillar of the community" and say things like that when the proof is staring you dead in the eye. Again..pay more attention to the details before bothering to respond. Thanks but no thanks for your invaluable input.

You tried to correct me that there are NOT lines in the SMS Dime Trout! There clearly are numerous lines across the entire coin, devices and all. I don't know what's so unbelievable about that. The proof is in the pictures. Other than Biedercoins seeing exactly what I was talking about with the description compared to my coins, this is utterly useless as nobody seems to have a clue about the 1964 Special Strikes. Those in the know are willing to pay ridiculous money for these apparently cleaned coins for whatever reason. They're obviously not your typical coins. Mine, cleaned or not, need someone a lot more knowledgeable on the particular subject.

I think it's more about people don't really care about die polish lines on a coin." I really don't for one"
