Woo-hoo Schulman auction purchases arrived. My buddy got couple I picked up this one, 120 USD out the door.

1767 thaler Davenport 1282, 29.33 grams. Raw graded by Schulman very fine plus if this would not go XF I would be surprised. I think European grading standards are more strict than US TPGs.

The cross is cool.

You are right about European grading standards, and purchased at the correct European grading.

Very pleasing coin!

Is the cross a tulip cross actually? Just a side interest. Who knows what it is?

It is a fire iron. The "floral" parts are in fact flames. The crossed flaming fire iron was already used by the dukes of Burgundy. Their heirs, the Habsburg family, kept the fire iron in their arms as a symbol of the title "duke of Burgundy".

I really like this cross.
I have a similar one, but with golden fleece instead of the bottom crown.
