Sometimes I come across a banknote that have non-English writing on the note.
How can you determine which is the obverse and the reverse of a banknote?
Is one clue that the serial numbers are usually printed on the obverse (front)?
Or is it something else?

Thanks,
mila_

Mila, I've always considered the obverse(front) to be the side with the serial numbers.

Not sure what everyone else does

I've always considered the "front" to be the side with the signatures.

As for euro notes, the side with the serial numbers is the reverse, while the side that mentions the issuing institution (ECB) is the obverse. Guess that in quite a few cases the obv/rev issue is dealt with by local laws or customs ...
