I can only estimate this, but I imagine I've accumulated 6-7 rolls of 1939 Jeffersons. 2 had an S and now one with a D. As with many here, there is anticipation with a flip of a 1939 to find a mintmark but this faded with time. This morning, about 2 rolls in I find a 1934 Buffalo. And about 3 rolls in, if find this one - This effectively closes out my first circulation set of Jefferson nickels. I've another two sets that I'm working on but they have a few gaps one being my 2015 Jefferson nickel challenge that will likely remain 6 nickels short. I'm really thankful for finding David's (nickelsearcher) thread on Jefferson statistics and for the idea that a Jefferson set could be built from the wild. And for the many terrific finds many of you posted over the past 3 years. It really built the optimism! And...it really is/was a terrific challenge! I have a few co-workers that I chat about progress with and some have elected to build sets with their own children. It is fun relating stories and sharing the 'wealth' with a child...or co-worker. It will be fun sharing the news of this elusive find! I'm feeling terrific this morning and hopeful that the many here, who work the bags, boxes, and rolls have a moment like this (actually, many moments like this). Happy hunting folks!! Keep at it...it will happen!

Let me be the first to congratulate you ! Yeah, those holy grail moments are incredible indeed. They are "rare" for a reason ! Everybody who wants those Jefferson keys will not find them for free in the wild, but your discovery success will inspire us to keep at it ! Now for your 1909-S V.D.B.......

indeed! Congratulations on this lovely find ... and the capstone coin to your initial roll found set. I can only imagine that you feel the same sense of collecting pride that I did when I finally achieved set #1 completion. The 'flip anticipation' is one of the many joys of CRH. I fondly recall needing the 1950-D as I was building my initial CRH set ... a lustrous 1950 dated Jefferson was laying face up on my desk and I could not stand to flip it over ... allowing the anticipation to build as I completed the other rolls in the $20 batch. Finally ... that single coin is still there ... so I call over my son and ask him if there is anything on the reverse side ... he looks and says ... 'sure Dad, a 'D", why?" Ahhhhh ... this 1939-D of yours reminds me of that feeling. Again .... congratulations and best of wishes with your future CRH endeavors. David

Thanks folks! I'm really glad that there is a series out there that can support a 'purist build'. That might not be an accurate term given in other series, folks will have to eventually collect (buy) coins off a bid board, at the LCS, or maybe a trade. But if you're going to try to do it from change or rolls, this is achievable!
I forget which member, but someone here did it in 6 months looking at multiple boxes per week. That's quite an accomplishment! My 2015 Jefferson build highlighted the diminishing returns after the 90% mark. But you can get a long way after a year and after 2 or 3, you can usually find a number of high grade replacements along the way. It keeps it interesting!

Congrats Rackster - More proof that it can be done. I can relate to the 1939 coins only I hope to flip and see a S mint (another D would also be a bonus). Hope I can join you in the CRH Nickel Set club some time soon. Best of luck always in your continued hunts!

my long term goal is to complete a set of Jeffersons from circulation. After a little more than two years looking I have about half so far.

Thanks folks! I appreciate the comments. I know a few of you are a flip away from doing it. And it will happen!!
Steele - you are on your way! I feel fortunate to get it done in the time I did. I need to look at my join date here. It coincides with my CRH return. And I had a nice head start. My brother and I started the roll searching in the late 70s. I know that my 38D, 39S and 50D were already in the folder. A good head start. But since I've found another 50D and 39S. But only one 38S, 39D and 43D. Some tough coins to find and geography is a factor. Good luck on your hunt.
David - I am experiencing some sadness or maybe withdrawal. I didn't expect this. Funny how that is. Did you experience a let down of sorts?

Hi Duncan - thanks! Yes. Excited, thankful, and a little sad it's over. Funny thing. I suspect you might be at your internship or maybe getting ready. I hope your finals didn't overly drain the brain. Enjoy the summer!
