Hello all. I'm glad to be a member of this forum.

I received a 1945 penny in change. Oddly, the 1 in the date resembles a backwards apostrophe. Is this rare? Have any forum members seen this?

Unfortunately my fliphpone won't upload pics to my PC.

Thanks all.

Conrad

First of all, to ccf

We are going to need to see pictures of the coin to determine if it is an actual error coin or post strike damage. Do you have a camera other than your flip phone?

No, I don't. The one looks like a backwards apostrophe is the best I can describe it. I searched Google images for a pic, but couldn't find one.

Could be a contact mark, damage or maybe not. Picture would help clarify. I know of no backward apostrophe's listed from the mint. Thanks, Doug.

Thanks. I think it is a mistake. Might be worth something.

It is almost certainly a distortion from a hit - this is not a known variety, believe me - with no premium value.
