The reverse side of this coin obviously appears to have something obscuring the surface.

What is this stuff and would removing it help to increase or decrease the resell value?

What process and related chemical would be best to try to remove this?

@mdpmedia, as you likely know, you will get a wide variety of opinions here on cleaning ancients. I happen to be in the "don't" camp generally, and would just leave your coin as-is. I believe that the technical term for the discoloration on the rev is schmutz...

How can we discriminate the kind of material it is from a black and white image? If it is a slightly purplish-black, it might be "horn silver" which is very harmful. Can you give us a large image in color?

Just for the record these new photos' colors are slightly more brown compared to their real life colors which are actually very similar to the original ones I posted at the beginning of this thread.

I processed these newer photos as shown to accent any features that are difficult to distinguish with the first set of photos etc.
