Hi All, I have not ruled out my LCS but thought I could get some recommendations for ebay sellers for Morgan silver dollars. I am truly concerned with authenticity of the coins thus I thought of asking my CCF family for help. As far as what kind of Morgans, well raw or slabbed works for me. Thanks ST

Will be following this thread. I too am looking for raw Morgan's. The ones I find are way too overpriced.

If authenticity is high on your requirement list then stick with slabbed coins (PGCS or NGC). Beyond ebay look at these online auction houses: -- Great Collections -- Heritage -- Stack's (very high grade) Also check this site: -- Collectors Corner http://www.collectorscorner.com)

It takes a lot of searching on ebay to find the deals and quality coins. There are a ton out there that have been cleaned and not described as such. Even more described as uncirculated when they are clearly not. I recommend you run sellers Pictures through your own processing(if possible) to get clearer pictures, especially the ones that don't allow you to zoom in on coin. Check feedback as well. I look to see how they described Morgans they have sold in the past and if buyer was happy with coin once received. Check CCF members ebay sales first. Post a want list here to include Morgans. I have had luck with both especially the want list.

Just buy slabbed coins from ebay. They don't cost more than non-slabbed IMO. If you get a Morgan graded by one of the two major graders you are probably OK. If the Morgan is more than a $100 I would not buy it from ebay unless it was graded and slabbed. There are many other coins on ebay that are just so expensive and over rated I would not touch them. I see Morgans that are just priced out of this world.

For coin companies, I have yet to be burned by TECC (Executive Coin Co.); David Lawrence (DLRC), Gary Adkins, BrokenCC (Northern Nevada Coin) & Bozarth Numismatics (my local fave) also good sellers that usually have strong Morgan inventories. Look for sellers that are members of the SSDC or NSDR, and preferably PNG and the ANA too. Off ebay, try Todd @ bluCC coins. Sellers to avoid include "morgandealer" (100% cleaned) and the guy who describes every morgan in a white 2x2 as a SUPER RARE PQ+++++ GEM BU MS UNC KEY DATE (he lists about 50000 coins a day, it seems.) Also, never buy anything in a NNC slab. Above $60-$70 unless it's a scarce VAM or has great pictures, I'm not touching it, unless it's in a PCGS, ANACS or NGC holder and has a return policy. Beware the hordes of cleaned coins described as AU or BU.

As long as there is a return policy , the dealer is an ANA member and has excellent ebay feedback , you have nothing to worry about.

I think most of the raw coins above EF grade on ebay have been cleaned or polished. It is hard to tell from a photo. I got one for less than $100 that when I got it I could tell it had been polished. Not that important to me since it is a hole filler for now. For the coins over $100 I want them graded and slabbed. I got a 1892-0 in AU 50 for $70 slabbed and graded. That is retail. It I got one in MS60 it would have been $250 at least online. My AU coin looks good to me and since I am a date/mint type collector it suits my wants. I don't see any good deals for Morgans on ebay at this time. I am not online 24/7 so I am sure I am missing deals. Silver prices have made a move and it seems reflected instantly in asking prices of Morgans. I have seen Morgans on the scarce side with prices 3-5 times even Red Book prices. I am not giving up but I am not going to overpay to that extent believing in the "Greater Fool" theory. My stock advisor called me today to discuss taking some profits. He says he cannot see what is holding the market up so take some money off the table and get some income producing assets like Preferred Stock, Reits and maybe utilities. All these things can go belly-up as well. Why are people stacking silver and gold now? Is the Great White Shark out there in a form we have not seen before? One of the unknown, unknowns like another meltdown due to derivatives or some "too big to fail" institution going down in flames? I still want my coins!!
