Hi All,

I am new to the forum, and am hoping to get some intel on this strange toonie I found in my pocket change. Any ideas? I have been searching for a similar error for a while but have not come across any. Thanks!!

coinbabe, welcome to the forum, from your pictures it could be either a planchet flaw or struck through, however there is also some post mint damage around the coin (being circulated).

could you provide us with a closer image of just the section with the impression (depression) it does look like something is impressed in that area.

Not the best pic, but there appears to be somewhat of a grid-like impression struck into the coin. My initial, perhaps overly-creative thought was that it had something to do with the microchips that the mint launched in 2012.

Looks legit to me...

It looks like the serrations from the rim of the two dollar coin. But, it also looks like a strike-through. My guess is that this is a struck through a fragment or laminated piece from another two dollar coin, that was struck and then a piece of the rim laminated off and ended up on planchet or dies... which then struck your coin.

I am seeing the outline of a 1 about the size of that in the date, lying sideways in the depression.
