Thank you everyone. I feel a little better. They really are nice and I think I will keep them. The continuing years. That's the dilemma I face. Should I continue to overpay ($120+shipping charges per year) just to get the "Reverse Proofs" hoping that someday they might be worth at least what I overpaid for them, or just stop the shipments after the big box arrives which will display the first two years under the glass top and then fill the drawers with mint sets and finding my own airtights. Each year would have a missing column where the reverse proofs should go but I suppose I could just get two proof sets per year or something...

I may choose to just get the entire set reverse proofs and all. Overpay for the set each year as a reminder not to do this again. ;)

Lesson learned: never go on ebay while drunk. But yes, they are beautiful.

Mark, that's a tough call to make. On the one hand, they are very pretty; on the other hand, you don't know whether they will appreciate in value or not. If you like the look of the reverse proofs, then I suggest continuing your set subscription. It all comes down to what you like to collect and what appeals to you. There are no right or wrong answers - just preferences.

I have been a victim of over-paying for coins on HSN as well.
I made a mistake and I learned from it

Dont be too hard on yourself Mark, as you can see we all have over-payed for a coin/coins.

Lay off the scotch! And, BTW, HAppy Birthday!

Gussyboy1

PS I recently over paid for Lincolns just because I needed to fill those holes in my albums--I didn't barter--I just paid the man (and you know who you are)--he took advantage of me wanting to fill those empty spots.Does he feel bad--"Not on your life!"--does HSN feel bad--don't think so. Am I happy with my purchases "YEP!" on the items, "NOPE!" on the prices. Oh well--life goes on.

If you are buying the coins as an investment, it probably isn't a very good idea to continue to buy them. However, if you really like the coins and plan on keeping them, buy the whole set through 2016.

is there silver in them ? if not I don't think it's a good idea to overpay for them. Even if they do become more valuable it's tough to find people who will pay you what they're worth when they have no intrinsic value.

unless the coin is a key date, underpriced barber coin, or has close to an ounce of silver in it I'll only buy it if it's on sale.

I got 3 BU (1 was closer to a 61/62) 1921 Morgan dollars last week for 20 dollars each. With silver over 18 dollars an ounce that seemed like a great deal.

The "proprietary reverse proofs" are just altered coins. They have buffed the coins to a high polish then placed a mask over the central device and sandblasted the coin. They have NO numismatic value.

I won't mention ANYTHING about a certain someone (completely sober) paying obscene money for the "uncirculated" Quarter Mania program.....gold layered, platnum layered, and uncirc............Yep !.... not saying a word..... and hopefully no one here remembers a certain idiot who made this "un-pretty" purchase from "HSN"......."before" he joined the forum to regret it and become one of those many people referred to above......
DANG ! I wish i'd bought this Presidential dollar Reverse Proof set instead! UH !..OH !! Who said that ?.........
