Is this coin worth collecting. I see the mintage is over 150 million for the "D" and 273 million for "P". It is only .36% pure silver. What should a person pay for one of these coins in MS 63-MS65 condition? The poor old Franklins seem like a much better deal with many coins with mintage below 5 million.

Would JFK silver coin be better for those who just want to stack some silver. You would need to get them really cheap it seems to me.

What you probably meant was an ASW of .3617 troy oz.

I agree on the Franklins being a better deal. So many of the JFK's were saved when they first came out that there is a high survival rate.

It is the only 90% silver Kennedy, not including the special issues, so it will always be collectible. Maybe no as much as a low mintage key date coin, but always as a one year only issue.

IMO if you are buying silver half's for stacking purposes, then it wouldn't make any difference if you buy Kennedy's or Franklin's since they are both 90% silver...

I buy both for stacking purposes... But as far as graded ones, I generally see them running about the same on prices so I don't see one advantage over the other... As a matter of fact I bought both a Franklin and Kennedy MS64 graded at the NRA Convention and I paid the same for both of them...

I like them but only uncirculated and at the right price. It's a nice looking coin and is 90% silver. They will never be rare but I think they will always be popular and have some demand.

Silver hunters... (CRH) ...like finding these for .50 cents each !
And yeah, the 1964 Kennedy is 90% silver, so it's a super coin to have and stack for silver hoarders.

As far as "collecting" them, they have their places in albums and slabs, of course, but after securing those, and maybe just a few nice individual specimens lying around, imo, no, I wouldn't just collect that specific individual year coin.
Though he is a very popular president with lots of fans....to each his own.
