I'm unfamiliar with US classics, so is the doubling on this 1852 dime anything? It's in an ICCS flip, so the photograph is through two layers of plastic. Thanks

It looks like it might be a re-punched date(RPD).

I'd wait, however, for someone like coop to look it over before making a final determination especially if you're thinking about sending it out to a TPG.

The doubling does seem to appear more rounded than how MD is flat and shelf-like, so I figured I better ask.

I was thinking the same thing, but what I see under the 5 is definitely an RPD, what what's happening with the 2 might also be an RPD.

The varieties with repunching on the 52 are:

F-104, F-105, F-105a, F-105b and F-117

I eliminated:
F-104 because yours has a strong legend on the reverse
F-117 since I don't see the die defect above the R in America

I'd say it is most likely F-105

What a great site. I would tend to agree with your assessment, although there's not much in the way of diagnostics on the coin other than the doubling - the wear of the coin doesn't help (ICCS has it graded as G-6). Still, those markers on F-117 or F-104 aren't present. Thank you.
