This was part of a small collection I bought a while ago and it's marked on the 2x2 0.925 silver proof. Not being familiar with proof strikes (perhaps this should have been posted in the NCLT section), I checked ebay and they seem to have frosted devices. Is this what one looks like after some circulation? Looks pretty much like a regular quarter in hand.

The answer is as close as your fridge.
Between periods, when you go for a beer.
Check it with a magnet.
If it's non-magnetic it's a proof.

I did check it, and it's silver ... I just don't think I'd ever have spotted it if I received it in pocket change and I didn't know those frosty proofs would lose their shine so quickly.

Nice keeper.
Looks kinda frosty and well struck in your pics.
I wonder if it really circulated or was just abused or a pocket piece.
