I have not seen any threads on this coin yet, which surprises me. Last years sold out in 7 minutes, and was a flipper's dream. This year's design is stunning. The mint rained on my parade a little with a mintage of 10k. This will still be the first platinum coin I've ever bought. I might try to get a few.. one to keep, one to flip (multiple addresses required, household limit is one). Thoughts?

Last year's edition went from a 2014 mintage of 15,000 to 4000 which would explain the quick sellout and flip prices.

This year the mintage went up 250% to 10,000 so that will have an impact on post-flip prices. HH limit of 1.

Price will be above the safety net of most here (me included)..

Coin could sellout in a week's time or take months to sell half of the mintage. Most of the collectors have been driven away by the high prices of the Preamble series and the subsequent falling of platinum's spot since the end of 2014. The final mintages and the maximums for the last seven years:

2009: 7,945 of 8,000
2010: 9,871 of 10,000
2011: 14,790 of 15,000
2012: 9,081 of 15,000
2013: 5,745 of 15,000
2014: 4,796 of 15,000
2015: 3,881 of 4,000

The 2009 & 2010 coins were about $1,900 each, the 2011, $2,000 each and three issues together sold out to the maximum. Once platinum started retreating from its historical highs, the buying dropped off even though the coins became a couple of hundred dollars cheaper in 2013 and 2014. IMO, 10K is far too many for the remaining 1oz PT collector, not all of whom managed to snag the 2015 rarity at $1,200. It's also too many for flipping easily and making a quick buck. This is an issue that will do well long term-wise and at least hold its value. The next unique issue is two years away in 2018. For the 20th anniversary of the APE, the mint plans to reuse the original reverse from 1997. Don't be surprised if the 2017 comes in lower than the 2015 and may become the key to the proof platinum series.

I was able to snag a 2016 APE directly from the mint, but I was surprised to see it was sold out in less than an hour. Does anyone know if the mint has any plans to re-introduce the bullion/non-proof coins again in the future? I have not seen anything that indicates they are, but I don't understand why?
