I bought a 1949 quarter on ebay and it has a really hammered strike. In looking at it under a glass it looks like it has some faint die polish lines. Any chance that this is a PL that somehow made it into circulation? I'm not familiar with the characteristics of some of the earlier PL coins.

No pics at the moment, although I'll try later.

Some of The 1949-1952 quarters, and 1947 maple leafs have a very shiny in appearance, has to do with die prep and maitanence. Doubtful it's a specimen, prob just a business strike.

That's a typical business strike for the issue. I see flow line on the reverse around the date
