Hi All,
Recently found this coin while metal detecting an Anglo Boer British camp hospital site. The coin must have belonged to a British soldier during the Anglo Boer war (probably a lucky coin). I have tried to search the net but cannot identify if it is a Qirsh or Para. I know the British Manchester regiment did partake in the Egyptian War in 1882 but the Tughra I cannot link to any Egyptian ottoman. From my little investigation the Arabic at the bottom also does not seem to indicate "Egypt". Can someone please assist to identify the coin, country of origin and date?

I think it's a 20 Qirsh from Sudan. The year is very worn, but seems like 1315, which corresponds to 1898.

EDIT: By the way, it seems that you're in luck, as this coin should be silver.

I used your Sudan now as reference and found the exact match on ebay. Could this be right?

The coin is correct, but I believe you have the wrong year. There are a few years with the same coin. As said, the date seems like #1633;#1635;#1633;#1637; in Arab numbers, which is 1315 in Roman numbers and corresponds with 1898 in our calendar.

Check the coin here: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces17838.html

EDIT: seems like Arab numerals are not allowed here... anyway, the year is written just above the two crossed spears.
