Hey everyone. Looking for some input on a coin I found. This nickel looks like as far as I can tell an off center, worn die strike. There is some strange stuff going on with the date and liberty. What do you guys and gals think?

A closer view of LIBERTY area would help.

That looks like a cropped image from the one before. To help determine what this is, we need a clear close up image of LIBERTY. If you need help with taking photos, head on over to the photography forum and they will help you.

If you have a loupe, hold it up to the lense of your phone. It is very effective at getting close up pictures of the coins in question.

Die deterioration, pure and simple.

I wonder if this is a die dent on that area of LIBERTY. It flows behind the devices. The also looks like circulation flattening may have taken its toll as well.
Thanks mike. It just look different to me.

No die dent. What you're seeing is an effect similar to the "ridge rings" that form on zinc cent dies. Ring (and partial ring) formation is seen sporadically on many other denominations.

1983-P-Jefferson-Error? Ridge Ring I believe.

Near as I can tell, the edge of the die is so worn the planchet metal "flows" to it. The letters on the die are recessed, and hardly affected.
